Update: Sainthood Cause of Fr. Stanley Rother Advances

I just learned of this recent post on the website for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City:

June 27, 2012

Today we received the news that the Congregation for the Causes of Saints has named an official Relator for the Cause of Father Stanley Rother.  The Relator together with our collaborator from outside the Congregation will prepare the Position Paper (Positio) on martyrdom. Please continue to pray for the Cause of Father Rother.   – Archbishop Paul S. Coakley

This is very hopeful news!  What a joy it would be for Oklahoma and the people of Santiago Atitlan, Guatemala to have their own saint.

Learn more about Fr. Rother in this post from last year.

  2. I just read the article in the Daily Oklahoman, 7/21/12 and felt such joy, pride and saddness. What a lagacy he has left to all of us. As a World History teacher at Woodward High School, I teach several world religions and we talk about different aspects of each religion-including sainthood. I have many Catholic students, in fact, a growing number with my Spanish speaking students. Sometimes it is difficult to get students to feel a part of the larger world. To these young people sainthood (and World History) seems ancient and far-away. Father Rother’s story is neither ancient nor far away. After I tell them about Cyril and Methodius, I will tell them about him.
