In honor of Father’s Day here in the US, I thought it might be fun to use the image of Christ as the Good Shepherd for Catholic Photo Challenge #3.

“I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep” – John 10:11

“The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.” – Psalm 23

The fatherly image of shepherds guiding, protecting and caring for their flocks is one that occurs in many places in Scripture. Christ as the Good Shepherd, as we read in the Gospel of John,  is probably one of the first images that we learn as children.

Many of our own roles in life are something like that of the Good Shepherd.  As parents, teachers, clergy, religious brothers and sisters, coaches, supervisors, etc., we have many opportunities to give life, to give love, and to make sacrifices on behalf of those we care for.

For Catholic Photo Challenge #3 (June 15-30) – show us an image that represents a “Good Shepherd” to you.   Be sure to tell us why!
